Description

Neptune Noir is a game about discovery. What's going on? Where is everyone? Why is there blood everywhere? These are the answers that we hope the players will seek as they play the game. With a combination of environmental and direct storytelling, the small but horrific world of Neptune Noir slowly shows its true colors. Playing as Detectives Gerald, Evelyn, or Jesse respectively, players are thrown into a mysterious case with little to help them out. They must scavenge, hide, and shoot their way through three Floors in order to grasp the secrets of the facility. Whether you go MIA on the Case, or you close it, is up to you, Detective.

Development Process:

Neptune Noir was constructed over 3 Months as a main project for an introductory Game Development Course in Unity, led by Professor Jess Klass. We are Group Six, consisting of a story director, level and mechanic designer, audio designer, programming / UI designer, and a world and character artist. As we started the project, we first began discussing our passions in the industry, our favorite genres, games, and whatnot. We then threw together our greatest ideas onto a GDP, and began work. We quickly setup a Discord channel / GitHub repository, so all work could be shared. The last thing we wanted was for development to go into an idea that someone disagreed with. We decided to have a horror themed detective game, drawing many inspirations from other titles such as Resident Evil. We also all agreed on 3 detectives (male, female, non-binary), as we found inclusion paramount to our idea. Therefor, the entire process went smoothly. Art was shared on the server, so were level layouts, story bits, and audio bites. Rinse and repeat this process till the work was done, and after a long 3 months work, Neptune Noir turned from a fantastic game idea, to an actual game.
